11.10 Medicare Select
Medicare Select is a managed care version of a Medicare Supplement policy, offered through private insurers. These plans must provide the same benefits as standard Medicare Supplement policies, provided the insured uses the plan’s network of approved providers.
Care is delivered through network hospitals, physicians, and other providers who have contracted with the insurer. When services are obtained within the network, the insured receives full plan benefits. If care is received from out-of-network providers, the insured may be subject to higher deductibles and coinsurance, except in emergency situations.
If a Medicare Select plan is discontinued, the insured has the right to convert to a standard Medicare Supplement policy without having to provide evidence of insurability.
